Anxiety/Depression

Woman suffering from depression Anxiety & Depression Treatments

Increasingly parents and many general Practitioners are turning to alternative therapies to try to alleviate childhood conditions for which traditional medicine has few resources except the prescription of medication.

Dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADD/ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorders, Tourette's Syndrome and general behavior problems can be, and often are, debilitating for child and family alike and dramatically affect quality of life for all.

Anxiety

Anxiety is considered an illness when one cannot control their anxious feelings. Anxiety disorders involve excessive levels of negative emotions such as fear, worry, nervousness and tension and the anxious feelings that occur involuntarily despite efforts to avoid or resist them. From chronic worrying, called generalized anxiety disorder by some experts, to panic attacks, most seem to have a similar root cause: unrealistic, overwhelming fears that can not only paralyze the mind but also cause serious physical problems. More than 23 million Americans experience some form of anxiety, making it the most common mental illness in the nation.

Depression

Depression can make a person feel hopeless and sad or stop feeling pleasure from almost every activity. Feeling down in the dumps, tearful or discouraged, irritable or anxious are typical. The symptoms of depression are often subtle at first, making it difficult to recognize that those symptoms may be connected.

Other symptoms include:

  • Sleeping too much or not enough
  • Feeling restless and unable to sit still, or feeling that moving takes great effort
  • Feeling tired all the time
  • Feeling unworthy or guilty without an obvious reason
  • Unusual weight loss or gain
  • Problems concentrating, remembering or making decisions
  • Thinking often about death or suicide

The Science of Depression

Anxiety and depression are so destructive that the sufferer can lose their job, home or family due to the immobilizing effects. Depression and anxiety can have such a tremendous physical component that physical pain is often associated with both conditions. The causes of anxiety and depression are many and varied, from traumatic stress, abuse, great loss and genetic factors, to name a few. Both conditions indicate some change in the dopaminergic system which translates to a decrease in endorphins. In plain English that means a deficiency in the "feel good chemicals" in the brain.

Overly Medicated?

Unfortunately, we're living in an era where there are too many medical doctors prescribing anti-anxiety and anti-depressant medications to patients without using adequate diagnostic tools or referral to a mental health professional.

A More Complete Solution

We know that Auriculotherapy plus TRT Chiropractic care, in conjunction with proper nutritional guidance and appropriate mental health support has been proven, not only to be effective, but to have eliminated the need in many cases, and drastically reduced the dosages for psychotropic medications for anxiety and depression.
